Stanley Jordan

Stanley W. “Stan” Jordan was born, raised, and spent nearly his entire life in Antwerp, Ohio, with the exception of his service during World War II on the European front. He married his high school sweetheart, Pauline, and together they had one son, Gale.

Stan was a member of Antwerp’s undefeated 1938 football team, back when the school’s colors were orange and black. The team was never scored upon during its eight-game season.

After returning from the war, Stan went to work for the U.S. Postal Service. He initially sorted mail aboard railway post office cars while trains were en route to their destinations. He later became the mail carrier for Antwerp and portions of the Harlan, Indiana, area.

Stan retired from the Postal Service around 1984 and later mowed Riverside Cemetery for the Village of Antwerp. In retirement, he became a prolific writer of local history and fiction for the West Bend News. Stan was one of the area’s last surviving World War II veterans when he passed away at the age of 96 in 2021.
